Pole camera survey on a property in Oxford

Property Description

Turner Baker Ltd were commissioned to carry out a pole camera survey on the chimney stacks of a detached Edwardian property in North Oxford.

Problem

The property had been suffering from damp problems and the owners wanted to ascertain if there was any damage to the chimney stacks and the surrounding area where water could potentially enter the building.
Damp in a property can be caused by many different issues – condensation, water leaks, water entering via damage to the property – to name but a few. Identifying the source of dampness in a property is very much a process of elimination. For this property, it was decided that an external survey would be commissioned to identify any potential areas of water ingress.

Solution

As there was no access to the roof of the property a pole camera was used to survey the area. A member of the Turner Baker team used a camera mounted on a length of rods to get a very close view of the chimney stacks and flashings (the leadwork used to seal the area between the chimney stack and the roof). Several areas where water could potentially enter the property were identified.
